Hernie Disco

Ross the Boss plays Manowar

Paragon of “true metal”, guitarist “hero” in the old and wide range, Ross Friedman, aka Ross the Boss for fans and intimate, can boast of a solid gold CV: The Dictators, New Yorkers who have never been able to choose between hard and punk. Shakin ‘Street, Parisian group with particular charm driven by the charismatic Fabienne Shine.

Manowar, God Odin of heavy, for eight years and six albums (from 1980 to 1988). Without forgetting an irreproachable solo career dominated by authenticity.

It is with a show dedicated to Manowar that this old kid from the Bronx will come to kick our buttocks by picking up in albums as sad as “Battle Hymns”, “Into Glory Ride”, “Hail To England” or “Kings of Metal”.

Doc Holliday

Doc Holliday without Bruce Brookshire? An oversight! An insult. This is how one could view Doc Holliday in 2019 without its historic leader. Two things do need to be said: Brookshire chose to become a pastor (!) and the new Doc Holliday of keyboard player and singer Eddie Stone has never appeared so petulant and familiar.

To a good Southern wind, Doc Holliday has thrown two first rate albums in 1981 and 1982 ‘Doc Holliday’ and ‘Doc Holliday Rides Again’. Originally from Macon, Georgia, estate of the historical Southern label Capricorn, unfortunately bankrupt in the early 1980s, Doc Holliday is the doughty successor of the fearless and fighter Southern gangs, led by Lynyrd Skynyrd. Although Doc Holliday loves his home, he does tour often in Europe and more specifically in Germany where he enjoys a good cult following.

After a farewell tour in 2011, also their 30th anniversary, Eddie Stone sets up shop again in 2014 with a few determined desperados, including the fantastic lead guitarist Michael Gilbert who wants to turn this new configuration into a scenic blaze. The charisma of Eddie Stone spinning on his Hammond might shake you up. The GARF needed a 100% Southern theme to complete a panel of typically 1970s trends on this super Saturday. Watch out, this will be the only performance of Doc Holliday in Europe in 2019. Be sure to get in on the action!

RUDY LENNERS’ Pictured Life with Friends

We needed a regional act. The choice of Rudy Lenners & Friends was a given: wasn’t Rudy the most accomplished Walloon rock musician? However, the genesis of this special concert is a bit different. In fact, Rudy decided to put away his sticks. This time, his friends will come and accompany him one last time on stage, as the old Liège lion promised us a few nice surprises.

For anyone who has a short memory or for anyone under 40, Rudy was the drummer of the Scorpions from 1975 to 1977 and appeared on the albums ‘In Trance’ and ‘Virgin Killer’. Back in the fervent city, he appeared in Danger, K-West, etc., and part of Steelover with super singer Vince Cardillo. Such A Noise, hell bound blues and rock, was probably the best heard project in his region. Take the front row for this show.

Atomic Rooster

In 1971, Atomic Rooster was already a trooper of the first division of British rock with prestigious groups such as Jethro Tull, Ten Years After, Deep Purple, and Led Zeppelin. The hard rock and progressive rock of leader Vincent Crane had much visibility, the same year that vocalist Peter French of Leaf Hound had serious strokes of genius. Impression confirmed on ‘In Hearing Of… Atomic Rooster’ where our cockney singer unfurls the whole breadth of a powerful, sensible and full voice of fine blues and soul.

Crane also recruited Steve Bolton, a super guitarist from Manchester for the band’s monumental album. Even though French moved around too quickly back in the day – he could resist the crazy Cactus of sirs McCarthy, Bogert and Appice – , he recently reactivated this oh so very cult Atomic Rooster with his mate Bolton. An event not to be missed under any circumstances!

Leaf Hound

Leaf Hound is a UFO and a curiosity. Chef’s surprise. The quartet was created in 1969 on the hot ashes of Black Cat Bones. Exit Paul Kossoff and Simon Kirke (exiled in Free). As for Rod Price, he bet on Foghat. The Brooks brothers and Peter French, the survivors, renamed the then deceased into Leaf Hound. Guitarist Mick Halls, French’s cousin, also signed up. Their goal was to transform a top band of the British blues boom into a frisky hard rock group. Mission accomplished in 1971 when ‘Growers of Mushroom’ with the psych sleeve stuns the world of rock.

As weird as it may seem, Leaf Hound is a stoner precursor equalling Blue Cheer. An impeccable example of hard psych rock with a sharp metallic sound. French’s super voice would rather join up with Atomic Rooster and Cactus before reactivating this group from Southeast London in 2004 to realised that there probably wasn’t anything any better back in the day, given the status of this unique masterpiece album.

Vulcain

Vulcain is the band of siblings Daniel and Vincent Puzio, proud Neapolitans. When you’re hot blooded, you need to make use of it. Vulcain waited until the right moment, 1984, to pen their manifesto ‘Rock ‘N’ Roll Secours’. For all time, ‘Le Fils de Lucifer’, ‘Les Damnés’ and ‘Ebony’ will reverberate as some of the finest French hard rock.

Vulcain is the school of MC5, AC/DC, Grand Funk Railroad and Motörhead. In fact, Vox Populi were quick to call them the French Motörhead.

Having lost steam in the 2000s, Vulcain made a comeback at the end of the cursed decade. After a Hellfest of fire, the food and shelter of friend Lemmy and the 30 years of Rock ‘N’ Roll Secours, Vulcain always positions itself as a priceless rock machine. ‘Vinyle’ (2018) is their latest opus. A lesson in purity…
